We are thrilled to have you join us today, welcome to ValiantCEO Magazine’s exclusive interview! Let’s start off with a little introduction. Tell our readers a bit about yourself and your company.

Mandy Rodgers: My name is Mandy Rodgers, and I am the Founder/CEO of Mandy Kay Marketing which launched in 2022 – it’s coming up on the one-year anniversary of the company!

I am a digital marketing executive in the media and film / entertainment industry, and I spent over a decade in Los Angeles leading 500+ marketing campaigns varying in size and scope across nearly every major Hollywood studio and brand.

A native of Atlanta and graduate from the University of Georgia, I launched the Atlanta-based Mandy Kay Marketing last year to offer my clients my unmatched combination of top entertainment market experience with Southeast hometown pride and expertise.

In the first year, I have completed 35+ campaigns across experiential events, theatrical movies, home entertainment releases, streaming content, independent films, consumer products, and more. I’ve stayed busy for the first year!

I love film, TV, pop culture and all “experiences” and am loving the opportunity to continue working with my favorite clients and partners on creative and interactive marketing campaigns across services like publicity, social media and influencer promotions.

In the past year, what is the greatest business achievement you’d like to celebrate with your team? Please share the details of that success.

Mandy Rodgers: The past year was my first full year of owning a business, so I am proud to have made it through this year with some incredible campaigns and stats.

  • 20 Clients

  • 45 Campaigns

  • 700+ Influencers

  • 20k+ Emails Sent

  • 38k+ Miles Flown

  • 5k MKM Website Views

I worked on some of the top franchises and pop culture brands in the world for my first year, including, Harry Potter, Jurassic World, Disney Princesses, Stranger Things and more.

What advice do you wish you received when you started your business journey and what do you intend on improving in the next quarter?

Mandy Rodgers: I actually received fantastic advice from friends, mentors, clients, colleagues when I was launching my business, but in summary, the biggest thing was to just get started!

For those starting out or considering starting out, the most important advice is just to get started – anywhere, somehow, even with the little things.

It can seem incredible overwhelming but so many little things will help your business launch and planning so starting with filing for your LLC, creating contact lists of potential clients and gathering past work experience examples and case studies are things you can do to start moving forward.

Moving forward, I am trying to focus on scale and what that means to me. The first year, I wanted to see what I could accomplish, what types of projects I’d be offered, which clients I would regularly work with and getting the basics of my company infrastructure set up.

Next, I do want to start looking at a longer term plan and goals for scaling and growing and what that looks like for me. At every turn, you’ll find that you have to figure out what makes sense for you and that doesn’t always look the same every day.

Online business keeps on surging higher than ever, B2B, B2C, online shopping, virtual meetings, remote work, Zoom medical consultations, what are your expectations for the year to come and how are you capitalizing on the tidal wave?

Mandy Rodgers: The rise of everything being virtual and online has made my entire business possible. You no longer have to be at inperson meetings every week, so I am able to have clients all over the country, even the world. It takes the pressure off of being in certain cities every day.

Clients have learned ways to work with partners and vendors in different ways which has benefitted me immensely. I am fully remote and able to travel as needed for big events or meetings, but my day-to-day can be done anywhere.

Everything I need is on my laptop, and in some cases, even just on my phone! I don’t see this trend ending, but I am glad that inperson events and opportunities are back as well. It’s good to have a balance.

Business is all about overcoming obstacles and creating opportunities for growth. What do you see as THE real challenge right now?

Mandy Rodgers: With any service agency, the biggest challenge is keeping a the perfect roster of clients and projects at all times.

The balance of enough work to stay busy and active and not too much to not be able to deliver is a constant battle that will never go away. Picking the right types of projects and clients to focus energy on and letting others go in a constantly changing climate.

The film and TV industries are evolving every day, and I need to keep my business diversified with as many different types of clients as possible, while also staying true to my core.

In your experience, what tends to be the most underestimated part of running a company? Can you share an example?

Mandy Rodgers: I’m not sure if any of these things are underestimated, but two very important things are: being organized and maintaining great relationships with everyone.

You have to either have someone on your team or you have to be incredibly organized to keep up with bookkeeping and all admin parts of the business.

And the idea of networking is important, but I like to say building relationships to define it a bit more specifically. Developing actual connections with those that you work with – assistants, partners, vendors, and of course, clients – is helpful for current projects and for future.

Building a network of people you trust, enjoy working with and can collaborate with in various ways is key to business success and growth in my opinion.

What does “success” in the year to come mean to you? It could be on a personal or business level, please share your vision.

Mandy Rodgers: Simple answer – trying new things and growing, always!
